BOSS AUDIO WANTS ALEXA TO RIDE SHOTGUN
When it comes to in-car entertainment, we haven't seen much recently in the way of breakthrough or emerging technology since Apple's CarPlay and Android Auto.
Amazon wants to put Alexa not only in our homes and offices but now in our vehicles too which makes a lot of sense when you consider convenience and driver distraction.
Garmin announced their Speak, a windscreen-mount miniature Echo Dot last week, while legacy car audio brand Soundstream recently announced their new VRA-67B 2-Din Alexa-enabled head unit.
Chinese brand Boss Audio showed their first Alexa-enabled LXA5 2-Din in-dash receiver at CES in Las Vegas last week.
It features AM/FM/CD/DVD and a 6.2" touchscreen that Boss Audio says offers the ability to “seamlessly integrate with Amazon's voice service” via a hotspot set up on a smartphone.
Doug Kern, Boss’s VP of sales said:
Users will be able to control their Alexa-enabled smart home products while driving, and before arriving home, using prompts like 'Alexa, turn the heat on at 72 degrees' or 'Alexa, close the garage door'.
The Boss Audio LXA5 also features Bluetooth Hands-free and Audio Streaming, 80 watts x 4 channels, USB, SD Port and Aux In. There's also a rear camera input and is also steering wheen interface compatible (with optional interface module).
If your vehicle can accommodate a 2-Din aftermarket head unit and in need of a tech update, check out the LXA5 from Boss Audio.
