E-TAGS COULD BECOME A THING OF THE PAST
Vehicle manufacturer, Audi, will later this year offer automatic toll payments via tech built right into the rearview mirror.
Announced last week the Integrated Toll Module, or 'ITM' will be included on select vehicles and work with tollways in the US, Canada, and Mexico initially.
The high tech mirror means no more sticking e-TAGs or toll modules to your windscreen. It's also capable of managing multiple accounts which is handy for share cars or other family members.
A spokesperson for Gentex, the manufacturer of the smart mirror said:
We are considering an aftermarket version, which if produced, would be available after it appears in the market on an OEM vehicle. We honor our OEM’s desire to be first to market with our new technology.
Among other features, the mirror can also show a video feed from a camera fitted to the rear of the vehicle.
It is expected the upcoming Audi A8 will feature ITM tech.
GadgetNET says: Finally, no more leaving etags in traded in vehicles!
