MOVE OVER UBER, TAXIFY LAUNCHES IN MELBOURNE
First, there was one. Suddenly ridesharing platform, Taxify makes it two.
After its much-published launch in Sydney recently, Taxify is now rolling out its services in Australia’s most liveable city, Melbourne.
While it’s still a wee early for Taxify’s main man, Marcus Villig to break out the bubbly, the launch down south of his fledgling ride-sharing platform has no hurdles bar one-Uber.
The Sydney venture is looking healthy with Taxify saying tens of thousands of Australians have downloaded the Taxify app and more than 10,000 drivers have signed on to ferry Melbourne harboursiders to and from here and there.
Taxify and its app hails from Estonia. The brand is said to have done well in Europe, Central America and Africa accruing four million users in 20 countries and toting up about $1 billion in revenue.
In Melbourne, it tackles Uber a platform hailed by Melbournians as clean, efficient, dependable, reliable and cheaper than a grubby taxi.
Uber is a relative giant with a turnover of $6.5 billion, and the brand is already a household name. And speaking of names, Taxify just doesn’t have the same ring about it.
Still, it’s early days in the ride-platform stoush and Taxify’s promise of cheaper fares may be the deal breaker it needs to make inroads against Uber.
Taxify takes 15 percent commission from its drivers compared to Uber’s 22.5 to 30 percent rake.
