PRICE CHECK: SMARTPHONE PRICE WAR ON NOW
This week in OZ, a fierce price war has broken out on the Nokia 8 flagship Android smartphone which has dropped over $400 in a day.
The war is a win for bargain-hunter consumers who benefit from massive price reductions in the light of a new model, the Nokia 8 Sirroco, coming in April.
If you have fancied one of these, now is the time to grab a bargain.
Our price checking at the time of writing shows the Nokia 8 for $899 (Harvey Norman), $599 (JB Hi-Fi), $540 (Kogan) and just $491 (eGlobal).
Meanwhile, Wired UK published an article this week called “How the hell is Nokia the UK’s third most popular phone brand?”.
It looks like a hefty dose of nostalgia, some lingering brand recognition, and some rather good-looking smartphones are helping Nokia’s comeback, in the UK at least.
And finally, Nokia's banana phone is back.
HMD, based in Nokia’s offices in Finland and staffed by mainly ex-Nokia employees use Foxconn to manufacture Nokia branded phones.
With this background, it is no surprise to see some old Nokia phones return as 4G Retro Classics, including the iconic 8110 Slider Phone as used in The Matrix.
Introduced last week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at only 79 Euros, we're told the bright yellow Banana Phone will unfortunately not be coming to Australia. Hipsters are lamenting all through Bondi and Fitzroy!
