UNDERWHELMING AMAZON PRIME DAY LAUNCH AS BEST DEALS ONLY ON AMAZON’S OWN PRODUCTS
Amazon's first ‘Prime Day’ in Australia was a complete letdown, and we're probably being kind with that description. While the USA and UK Amazon stores are bursting with literally hundreds of bargains, the Australian store is full of toasters, low-quality headphones and baby buggies.
UPDATE: Day Two and Three were even worse!
Annoyingly the Prime Day website is a mess and to even see the deals you are expected to click through over 34 pages of mostly random dross, while anything good is already sold out.
When we say a mess we mean it - tools, bras, nappies and electronic parts are all presented on the same page. Some categories are almost empty, click on books, and there are just eight. Men’s clothing? One pair of shorts. Some of the discounts are derisory, and weirdly some featured items aren't discounted at all. We've been left scratching our heads at GadgetNET towers.
THE GOOD NEWS
The silver lining is the very good deals on Amazon’s own branded products and services.
These were our picks: BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THESE DEALS ARE NOW GONE
- Amazon Echo Plus HALF PRICE at just $119 - a great way to start with Alexa
- Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader $50 off at $129 - the best e-reader there is
- Amazon Echo Spot Video Ball $50 off at $149, super cute, two of us bought one (-:
- Four months of Amazon Music for just 99 cents, add to the above
If you have the patience, keep watching, and more deals should go live throughout the 36-hour Prime Day sale, in theory. But as other news outlets have reported, often the sale price has lasted just minuted before being inflated.
