YET ANOTHER AMAZON PRODUCT WE CAN’T BUY IN AUSTRALIA
Amazon is proudly boasting its new Echo Spot, a mash of the Echo Show and the Echo Dot in one cute little tabletop form factor. It's already available in the US and launches on the 24th Jan in the UK. But if you live in Australia, you can't have it, or any other Echo or Alexa product, at least officially, yet.
It seems that no one outside Amazon knows for sure why Alexa has not yet launched. Some suggested it was something to do with the Aussie "twang". We proposed the Echo & Alexa range would be timed strategically to hit with Amazon's Australian website launch.
Meanwhile, we use workarounds and drop shippers to enjoy Alexa throughout the GadgetNET office.
Amazon's latest Echo Spot is destined to replace traditional bedside alarm clock radios.
Echo Spot is designed to fit anywhere in your home. Use second-generation far-field voice recognition to watch video flash briefings, see music lyrics, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and more. All hands-free-just ask.
With a small built-in speaker, it will happily wake you up to the default alarm or your favorite track. You can also make and receive video calls or take advantage of over 30,000 Skills now available on the Alexa platform.
Now, all we need is the 'Australia' Skill. C'mon Aussie Amazon.
UPDATE: Amazon has announced Alexa and Echo launch for Australia February 1st. No Echo Show or Echo Spot for launch though.
